Cleaning,
the Gun and Column Components by Hand When
cleaning by hand the gun and column components you may use any metal
polishing media that is suitable for brass or stainless steel and
preferably soluble in dilute ammonia, DO NOT use a media that is said to
be "long life" as this will
place a polymer coating on the components (the applicable solvent is
acetone). The solvent dilute ammonia is a mixture of 1:10 ammonia
solution (40°/o)
and water, it is a solvent for tungsten as well as for media like Bluebell,
Silvo or similar. Use a sharpened stick with cotton or tissue spun
onto the end for cleaning difficult areas. But, take great care if you are
using sharpened sticks, the only sticks that will not break are bamboo,
cocktail sticks are just not good enough! The
most important point is to remove ALL of the polishing media when the
cleaning process is complete 1.
Clean with metal
polish. 2. Wash with a suitable solvent using cotton or tissue on a stick to clean in difficult areas, 3. Wash away the solvent. 4.
Immerse in
alcohol and then dry quickly using a hair drier 5.
Check with at least a 10X hand lens and remove any remaining stains or dust
with a fluff free tissue, Each
cleaned component should be stored in aluminium foil until
ready for use. Prior to fitting each component should be checked
once again with a hand lens, to ensure there are no debris remaining. The
Gun Chamber 1. In the case of the gun chamber, if it is looking clean simply rub it over for a few minutes "in situ" with a clean chamois leather, deer skin or similar material. 2.
If the
chamber looks slightly
tarnished, with light blue or yellow deposits, clean it with 10% dilute ammonium
hydroxide (40%) before the chamois clean. 3. If the chamber is very dirty remove it from the microscope, "CARE", and clean it with metal polish. Follow the metal polish clean with ammonia and then the chamois leather procedures. NOW TAKE A LOOK AT FURTHER CLEANING DATA UNDER "TIPS"
